Out of the five basic commands, the sit command is regarded as the simplest command to dog training, and also it is viewed as an act of dog`s` respect to the owner. The steps involved in training a dog how to sit include, holding a dog`s meal close to its nose, then move the hand upward and allowing the dog`s head to follow the food, making its back to move downwards, once the dog is in a sitting position, the instructor needs to say sit. In addition, the dog should be instructed to sit before mealtime, when leaving for walks, and during situations that the owner would like the dog to calm and seated.
The steps involved in training a dog the down command include, looking for a good smelling food and holding it tight in their hand closer to the dog`s nose to ensure that the dog sniffs it, then one needs to move their hand to the floor so that the dog follow, once the dog`s` head is on the floor, one needs to slide their hand along the ground in front of the dog so as to encourage the dog`s` body to move forward and follow its head, once the dog is in a down position, the owner need to say down and the give the dog the food.
The stay command should be initiated when a dog has perfectly learned the sit command, these steps involved in the stay command include, asking the dog to sit, this is followed by opening palm of their hand in front of the dog and then say stay, then take a few steps back and give the dog food if it stays. It is advisable to train a dog the leave it command since it can prevent a dog from harm in the event that it wants to smell something hazardous.
